Dr. Tasneem F. Shamim received her  Bachelor’s Degree in chemistry with honors in 1977 from Rutgers College after 2 years of study. After her undergraduate studies, she attended  Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in New Brunswick, NJ. In 1981, she began her postdoctoral training in medicine at Robert Wood Johnson, and in 1985 completed her residency in ophthalmology at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey in Newark. Dr. Shamim is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and the National Board of Medical Examiners.

Dr. Shamim has worked in New Jersey for her entire professional career. She has had her private practice in ophthalmology in Somerset, NJ for over 25 years. As well as practicing full-time, Dr. Shamim works as a Clinical Instructor of Ophthalmology at the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital. She has also participated in FDA studies as Clinical Research Investigator for various cholesterol, neurological and psychiatric drugs.

Outside of her medical career, Dr. Shamim also devotes time to volunteer work by donating used glasses to those who cannot afford them. She is a founder and president of the MWC, which sponsors various charity efforts for people in need locally and globally, and engages in interfaith dialogue with other organizations. She also is a founder of the Turabi Institute, which sponsors a school in Dr. Shamim’s birth town of Mysore, India.
